Review of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) by Mattyice — 13 Jul 2017
War for the Planet of the Apes caps off what is arguably one of the most surprising and best blockbuster trilogies in recent memory. Unlike many trilogies though this third film actually comes out as the best in my opinion.
The film features an oscar worthy performance by Andy Serkis as the ape protagonist Caesar, great characters (new and old), a powerful message, engaging action, stunning directing, a beautiful soundtrack, and inarguably the best CG effects and motion capture in a film to date.
My only nitpick is a somewhat slow second act in comparison to the great first and third acts. Overall, War for the Planet of the Apes is arguably the best movie of the summer, best of the Planet of the Apes movies, and even the best of the year so far.
