Review of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) by Aleksandar C — 14 Jul 2017
[[Spoiler Free Short Review]].
War for the Planet of the Apes is the third instalment in the Wyatt - Reeves Apes franchise. The movie unlike what the name suggests is not a typical War movie with scores of explosions, shaky cam and with Apes and humans killing one another over the background of screams and war cries. Rather, Matt Reeves creates a film that portrays powerful moments and scenes that help you relate and empathise with the apes.
The entire movie seems to be filled with contrasts of serenity and chaos, kindness and cruelty, betrayal and redemption, all captured in scenes and moments that make you remember that movies are not always to kick back and relax, they can also be tools to make you think and understand. The firm base that the previous movies made has been brilliantly used to amplify the strength of the plot. The cast has done an exemplary job with Andy Serkis performing as brilliant as expected and Woody Harrelson portraying a compelling core to the dark side in the film.
As far as complaints go, I honestly don't have one. If you are looking for a chill Sunday afternoon movie, meant to just pass time, this might not be what you are looking for. Watch this movie for an experience that provokes thought and draws out emotions.
To the DCEU enthusiasts, Batman is in safe hands.
Verdict: Apes Together STRONG!
