Review of War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) by Sheshe W — 14 Jul 2017
The Planet of the Apes has always been an action packed, edge on your seat kind of movie. It has enthralled me with anticipation and sense of intrigue. In the Rise of the Planet of the Apes, there was so much excitement and captivation and when Caesar spoke....omg!!! Caesar had a charisma that demanded respect, his attitude was a persona as if to say you humans are beneath me, I am not only intelligent, I am strong and you need to respect me! His arrogance to which he carried himself was likeable! In the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, there was still that sense of power amongst the colony to which you could not help but side with their success. Side with their defeat of humans!
And now, here we are in the War of the Planet of the Apes. The trailers looked riveting and exciting. Caesar depicted as this powerful Ape that once again will triumph with immeasurable intelligence, to outsmart the humans in a ravage way....like the others prior did.
I was sadly disappointed. The movie was slow, the insert of a comical ape was a take away from the movie, and there wasn't any significant action, except at the very beginning and the very end. I was just expecting what I have always been drawn to with this series and it was a big $14 dollar let down. The significance of the little girl was baseless. If they were trying to protect her from what...I do not know would have made better sense. I wanted more of a fight between Caesar and the Colonel but instead.....
It was just a portrayal of human..."white man," dominance. To enslave the ones who are inferior to them...to savagely beat when their orders are not maintained, but without guns dominance would never be won to be honest. There was a deep message in the movie, and peeks my interest to a possible fourth sequel??
Basically, in a long winded way - the trailer hyped this movie to which it did not live up to for regardless of it's possible Biblical message.
