It is played as a caper movie but the caper is not particularly interesting. There is no ingenuity or suspense in the caper. There is a very good movie lurrking somewhere in this story. There are multiple references by the characters to the Al Pacino "Scarface" movie.
The true story on which this movie is based would lend itself to a dark treatment like that of "Scarface" The caper movie genre just does not fit this story.
