Review of War Dogs (2016) by Lenard W — 21 Aug 2016
The true story of two junior high friends who get into the international arms dealing business when their lives turn out as they least expected. Jonah Hill is startling as a trip wire ready to explode.
He can turn from the nice guy to a jerk in seconds, and all within seconds. Miles Teller is completely miscast. I first noticed him as the simpleton in the remake of Footloose, but his career has taken a turn.
He plays jerks, douches, and assholes masterfully. He cannot play the "hero." Even in Whiplash, he was not a great guy. He manipulated his girlfriend and played asshole to J K Simmons' really big asshole.
No one else in the cast is really of note--Bradley Cooper cameos as a big-time weapons liaison, but gives almost nothing to the role. The biggest lesson from the film is make sure you pay the box guy.
