Review of War Dogs (2016) by Elan K — 01 Sep 2016

"War Dogs" tells the true story of David Packouz and Efraim Diveroli, military weapons dealers that armed American soldiers in Afghanistan during the mid to late 2000's. So with a summer of flops how does this comedy stack up? Well this has surprisingly been the first film I've seen in theatres all summer and well.

.. It was entertaining enough to warrant a watch however it's not a film I'd rush out to see. First off this movie stars Miles Teller and Jonah Hill, who are two actors I enjoy very much and well Miles delivers a solid performance as come to expect, it was Jonah Hill who I found too be the biggest stand out in this film.

I felt that he really delved into his character and forced the audience to go back and forth on the trustworthiness of his character right up until the very end. The movie also stars Bradley Cooper, however his role though significant is very minimal and is not in the film as much as the trailers will make you believe.

Thats another thing about "War Dogs". This is a film that is not like its trailers, though what these two characters went through was pretty crazy, it's not as eccentric nor funny as the trailers want you to believe.

The movie still does have it its fare share of comedic moments, it's just not a full out a comedy. I thought what Todd James did in this movie was great and it was a very interesting tale and the way he told it kept me invested (for the most part).

As far as how true to life this film is, I can't really say however it is a fun enough popcorn flick that I'm sure many people get a kick out of. Though not my favourite movie of 2016, "War Dogs" provides a silver lining for what is a weak summer for movies.

"War Dogs" gets a 6/10.
