Review of War Dogs (2016) by Warwick B — 12 Sep 2016
Jonah Hill and Miles Teller star as two Miami stoners turned amateur gun runners in way over their heads in the latest film by Hangover director, Todd Phillips, shockingly inspired by a true events.
Hill and Teller are high school friends, Efraim and David, who exploited a little known government arms procurement that basically allowed anyone to bid for military contracts, and get rich doing it, which the pair did, but their greed to make even for more money made them reckless in a dangerous game.
Teller is solidly understated playing the straight man to Hill's over the top, coke snorting sociopath with a signature laugh. Its' s terrific performance which pretty much carries the film as you watch his character shift from likeable scoundrel to dark paranoid cheat.
War Dogs is a barking mad story. It's good, but it's not great like it could have been. That's said, it's a sinfully entertaining film that's worth at watch.
