Review of War Dogs (2016) by Jule D — 29 Aug 2016
This was a great movie that adds humor to such a devious scheme involving the military and the profits that can be had from war. Jonah Hill was awesome in this movie and has the perfect laugh to put his character over. Miles Teller felt like he played himself in this movie, much like he did in his previous roles.
The music selection is great. One would expect explosions and gun fire with action scenes in a such a war focused movie, but not in this film. There are some great song selections that just liven up Jonah Hill's character.
I particularly liked the way that each scene started off with a quote from the scene. This left me guessing and even more interested for what's to come. I did expect for the movie to have an even rise and fall in terms of storytelling, but I felt the falling action was much shorter, thus leading to a quick resolution. The film feels like it could have fleshed out the outcome (without revealing too much) before the final scene of the movie. Then I look at the run time, and I understand the exclusions much more thoroughly.
I would recommend for everybody to at least rent this when it comes out. It's an intriguing commentary on the economy that war and the military create, which will never ceast to exist.
