Review of War and Peace (1956) by Johannes R — 02 Apr 2011
3.4.2011.
The film had its moments of greatness, like the dance salon scene with Audrey, but they were too few and too far from each other. The rest of the film wandered somewhere between good and mediocre, and little too long. Without enough depth in themes or character, missing the sense of an epic it reached towards. Herbert Lom's performance didn't help the proceedings, but whenever Audrey was on screen, the film sprang to life. There just wasn't enough of her.
