Review of Wanderlust (2012) by Roxanne R — 20 Jul 2012
Wow, watching this film makes you feel stressed out about living in NYC not only due to the crowds but also because it is super expensive. We have a cute couple named George (Rudd) and Linda (Aniston) in their late 30's that take the plunge and buy a studio in NYC.
George thinks he is going to be promoted and Linda is hoping HBO picks up her documentary. After one loses his job and the other one fails to attract HBO, they have to sell their studio at a loss. They are forced to move in with George's vain and manipulative but successful brother Rick (Ken Marino) and his completely useless wife Karen (Kathryn Hahn) who have a beautiful home in Atlanta.
As they drive for hours from NYC to Atlanta, they decide to spend the night at a place called Elysium, an idyllic community populated by colorful characters who embrace a different way of looking at things.
Money? It can't buy happiness. Careers? Who needs them.. Clothes? Only if you want them. Elysium is a rural commune where free love abounds but are the city slickers prepared to handle a completely different way of life from the big city? Are they ready to dump their technology, go vegan, and share a house with people so different from them.
Great acting by Alan Alda (Carvin), Aniston and Seth (Justin Theroux). Had a few laughs, so recommended.
