Review of Wanderlust (2012) by Liam C — 27 Jul 2012
2012 so far has a lack of comedies that I've seen. Now came along Wanderlust. Does it succeed in being the breakout comedy this year? Well, not entirely.
What the film does great is the beginning half of the film. Every moment that wasn't with the hippies was outstandingly funny, and the film relies on true comedy, rather than slapstick. Also, there are few scenes that will have you doubling over with laughter, especially one with a horny Paul Rudd in front of a mirror. Jennifer Aniston isn't anything different, so you should expect the same old Aniston in this one.
However, this movie's second half, completely deteriorates into a hopeless comedy that never seems to end. The director takes everything fun and crazy about the movie, and throws in cliche riddled plots that never connect with the first half of the movie. Again, some scenes were hilarious, but there wasn't enough consistency to keep the movie flowing.
Overall, Wanderlust delivers some funny moments, but don't hesitate to take a few bacthroom breaks when the Hippies come on, cause nothing hilarious is coming your way, except a few penis' and over exaggerated plot twists. When in doubt to see this movie, try Chronicle instead.
