Review of Wanderlust (2012) by Brianne L — 20 Aug 2012
Wanderlust is strong with satire, so the humor is in the dialogue and situation. So the humor is more cerebral than slapstick and it makes the film funny only when there are relatable moments or elements of character to character criticism.
It's a smaller film, so it has more of a story feel than a saga feel. I laughed quite a bit during the film, more than I expected I would given the lower 43% users liked it rating. The movie starts off really funny but gets slower in the middle but gets funny again at the end, and I think the middle part is what makes the movie challenging to stick enjoyment to.
The characters are pretty funny, some are pretty insane, and I thought each one came across well defined. I laughed a lot in scenes when Paul Rudd's character spoke common phrases among younger people but the hippie community members responded more literally to them.
