Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Jonathan H — 13 Jul 2009
It is easy to forget a lot of the times just how lucky we as americans have it. we dont have to worry about getting blown to bits while walking in the streets (because of political strife beyond our control, at least), and civilian casualties are limited to those that are caused by ourselves, and not, say, militias and radicals.
This film is a sobering reminder of that. it is so depressing and horrific at times, and it being in cartoon form really punches you out emotionally in particular sequences.
I find it interesting that they decided to animate a documentary, in my mind it is a rather odd approach and subject, but because of that, it lends itself to originality that we probably wont see in either genre for a good while.
