Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Vincent B — 01 Aug 2009
An incredible film experience. with obviously beautiful animation, whats surprising is that the story and the images that make up the moments of the film carry more weight than most movies could ever dream of.
I think thats what makes this movie unique, the fact that the images paired with the context penetrate to the subconscious. that is a rare occurrence in any art form. but whats equally as special about this movie is that way in which folman decides to tell the story.
it is mostly dramatic narrative but there are documentary style interviews with real people peppered throughout the film that triangulate for the viewer the precise elements that we should focus on, what was missed.
and I think thats what is great about this film. it is not about the events. its not a social consciousness promotion movie. it is a film about memory.
