Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Sajib K — 29 Sep 2009
Director's own life surfaced as he tried to recall forgotten wartime past as a soldier in Israeli army during Lebanese invasion. As he met with his colleagues, friends and fellow soldiers at that time, gruesome, brutal account of the war came into light.
An appealing animation drama depicting the atrocities, inhumanness offered by the captors (Evangelist army backed up Israel) and miseries, pathos, helplessness of the captives (the Lebanese mass). Nonetheless, it also pictures the turbulences of the lives of the common soldiers and the way they tackled this situation.
An impartial movie by a Jewish director on a controversial topic, reconfirming that "War is a colossal waste". 4 stars !!
