Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Jake D — 06 Nov 2009

A vivid picture of the numbness of soldiers hollowed out by the brutality that they inflict and suffer in war. I thought it showed the madness of both religion and war very powerfully. Some of the interviews about the massacres in Lebanon contain a lot of ass-covering: "it was all the Christian Phalange's fault" and "I was just obeying orders", but the denial is all shown pretty explicitly as part of the involvement in atrocities.

There is no political background provided, which actually highlights the madness of it all even more as nothing can justify war. Great animation and very well chosen music. The lyrics of those Israeli war-rock songs are shocking and sad.
