Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Kelley H — 02 Jan 2010
War and genocide are always difficult topics to approach, but this film does so well. This film is about the soldier's experience of these traumatic events, and the journey it takes to remember. The graphic style of animation, which is both horrifying and beautiful in parts, is an effective storytelling tool, making the story readable and digestible (and thus protecting the audience from these traumas) but all the while giving us a hint, via concrete details, of these soldiers' experience in war.
