Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Lee G — 21 May 2010
This unique documentary will grab you from the very first scene. It's unique in that the entire documentary is animated. Honestly, that is the only way this documentary could be made. The arresting and often hauntingly sad visuals contrast with the fluid and beautifully captured animation.
You can't help but watch and learn about the 1982 Lebanon conflict and resulting massacre. It's a journey of self discovery made all the more real through the drawings, pure visual storytelling.
The film took four years to make and it shows. Every detail remembered. And it's haunting.
