Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Philip H — 02 Jan 2011
The Verdict: even without being historically significant, Waltz is a must see for its high entertainment and production value. I think I have found my favorite documentary film of all time. sorry, howie.
The Good: Waltz with Bashir is hands down the best made 2D animation film. and the only documentary to be animated at that. you would find it hard to get over how good this film looks and sounds! the characters look remotely human but feel alive. the score is very edgy, with dashes of techno and electronica but very appropriate. it creates a haunting shadow over the very grim theme. as it is entertaining, you would forget you are watching a docu film. the film's last seconds will pull you back from its Animatrix-like world to reality. it's the high you get from watching a rock concert. only a hundred times more poetic.
The Bad: this film in itself is superbly entertaining. i'm not afraid to recommend it to anyone. I don't know though if it is historically and politically correct.
