Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Elad A — 26 Jul 2011
Waltz with Bashir is not just the best Israeli movie I have ever watched. It's the best documentary probably as well. It's also the best war-movie I've seen, and I've seen a few. It's the best anti-war movie.
It's not just that it's good - it's heart-wrenching. It's personal. It's incredibly layered and it grabs you by the lungs. It's deep, it's profound - and it's real. It is a real story.
It's war at its worst. It's people at their worst, and their best. But mostly it's just brutal. Brutally honest, brutally true, and brutally brilliant. I am speechless. Speechless.
