Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Michael T — 02 Feb 2012
What horrible happenings occur in this sad, interesting film. I'm not too familiar with this particular war, but I feel more educated now. The film plays very fascinatingly with the ideas of memory and trauma, but what makes it depressing is that it's all true and an almost autobiographical account from the director.
I'm not a huge fan of the animation, as it's as distracting as it can be wondrous. However, as the film's final minute plays out, I realize, hey, this is a film whose message would be too hard to swallow if using all real or live-action footage.
This is why I never I want to go to war.
