Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Martine K — 13 Aug 2012
A devastating, shattering, powerful film. Animation is the only option to tell a story like this--documentary yet deeply personal--because animation can mimic memory without being "gimmicky". How do human beings deal with the horror of combat? Can a government be held responsible for the actions of those who act "in their name"? I don't have the answers to these questions--and neither does this film--but it's required viewing for anyone with an interest in what it means to "be human".
Amazing.
