A stunning and provocative film that leaves the audience with plenty to consider. My one niggle is that the premise reeks a little of gentle lies from the protagonist about how much he actually remembers and how much he is actually willing to reveal about himself in order to help the story function.

Perhaps I believe that he doesn't remember what he was part of and sure he shows himself as a probable perpetrator of horror by the end, but he also portrays himself as completely passive as the young soldier - someone we should sympathise with.

As it was a pre-conceived thing making this film, the chosen idea of crossing the documentary and drama elements give the film a false cerebral quality that I couldn't quite swallow. If the filmmaker is the story a film ceases to be a documentary in my opinion, but then this film is massively inventive and really ought to be seen - I was just left feeling like I didn't trust the filmmaker's projected protagonist and that was problematic for a film dealing with such a poignant subject matter.
