Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Sumit S — 18 Dec 2012
Put it into the genre of war, history, biography, documentary or even animation... And Waltz with Bashir will still score highly in all of them. Telling its director's efforts in searching his forgotten memories of his experience as a soldier in 1982 Lebanon War, Waltz with Bashir is an aesthetic piece of filmmaking & artistically magical in terms of its cinematography.
An absolutely spellbinding & first-of-its-kind animation, superb screenplay & direction, subtle editing & in spite of being an animated feature, Waltz with Bashir manages to depict the horrors of war & massacre effectively & only gets more unsettling as time passes.
One of the best of its genre(s), Waltz with Bashir is one hell of a powerful animated documentary feature.
