Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Nate Z — 16 Sep 2009
"Waltz with Bashir" has accomplished a feat many films have attempted but never accomplished; it has portrayed in film the depth, complexity, and layered intensity of a life-altering novel.
Words are insufficient to capture the visceral impact of "Waltz with Bashir". This is truly a movie that must be watched to appreciate its uniqueness, power, despair, hope, and ambiguity.
It is no surprise that the film has resonated with the American people; a nation struggling to come to terms with war-weary soldiers returning home to a grateful country that has no idea why it is expressing gratitude, and veterans confused by the paradox of ubiquitous public rhetoric but the absence of basic services.
Watch "Waltz with Bashir"; take a walk; watch it again.
Happy viewing!
