Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Mummy M — 18 Dec 2009
Not many people saw this foreign animated import from Israel. The animation is something never seen before; surreal and beautiful. The movie is a splice between real-life interviews and dramatized retelling of the events of the siege on Lebanon.
The world we are introduced to portrays the horrors of war in a sometimes dreamlike, sometimes kinetic and sometimes all-to-real fashion. Some scenes are just breathtaking, including the final reel, which is guaranteed to make your gut tighten.
This Israeli film tells it like it is, and the journey is mesmerizing.
