Review of Waltz with Bashir (2008) by Daniel O — 08 Jul 2009
Visually you can't deny it's an absolute masterpiece, and I would even upgrade it to an unique and exquisite piece of art. The cinematography and direction in general is also suberb, but where it really takes the lead is in the interesting but complicated world of the soldier's psicology and how it can makes people become mere drained animals.
Hard to see, complicated to understand, the philosophy of this movie is in any case fascinating. By the end, you really get a feeling of nonsense. The nonsense of war and the pain it causes to innocent people.
Not for all audiences due to its complex plot, it's in any case a must-see movie.
