Review of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (2010) by Mark M — 31 Mar 2012
Maybe it was the fact our viewing was sponsored by the Bedford branch of The Talk Loudly in Cinemas Club, or that it was cosponsored by the Bedford Crazies Club, or that I paid Ã,£3 for some Pringles (they must have been made from celebrity potatoes, hence no more Toy Story), but I did not enjoy this.
With the recent economic turmoil, it seemed only a matter of time before we had a film about it, shame it was this. There is no satire here, no cleverness, its just Gordon Gekko part 2. Lets face facts, there was a relatively small group of people who created the mess the world is in today, and they are, for want of a better word and to keep things vaguely civil, arseholes. Twats who played a game that could only end in us losing, and guess what we did. Now here comes Olly Stone with a hard biting attack on corporate financial... oh wait no, thats not what this is about.
In fact I couldn't tell you what its about, apart from the obvious that Gekko is going to con everyone. No one is likable, and they mumble. And we are supposed to know what they are talking about as they spew out long speeches on finance, So if you want to see it, go get a degree in economics first, then you might enjoy it. That is if you can tune out the slightly weird and awkward songs of David Byrne, that make you long for your Talking Heads CDs.
