Review of Wall Street (1987) by Chris P — 27 Jun 2011
Don't you love it when you are just flipping through the channels and you see a flick on TV that you've always wanted to see...well that happened with Oliver Stone's 1987 masterpiece, Wall Street.
I have wanted to see this for quite some time, and now that I have...Oliver Stone is pretty much the man. The late 80's and early 90's, he was pretty much unstoppable with such classics as Platoon, Born on the 4th of July, Natural Born Killers, and JFK (I woulda said The Doors, but since I am a fan of the actual band, the movie sucks...it makes sense if you know anything about them.) Wall Street is the quintessential flick of the late 80's, it showed the greediness of us all to a T. You'd think a film about Wall Street would be confusing, I really thought I wouldn't understand it at all, but even with all of the technical terms that they used, I was totally with it.
Michael Douglas won an Oscar for his portrayal of the ruthless Gordon Gecko, and he totally deserved it...his performance is mesmerizing. All in all, a great cast, great script, etc. makes for a great film.
