Review of Wall Street (1987) by Benedick L — 06 Nov 2010
A well made movie made for the wrong reasons. Oliver Stone says in his commentary on the film that there aren't that many films about business. He listed some but for me I am racking my brains to think of any other than wall street. Why? Because there is all this jargon that goes with it that takes forever to explain. I didn't really understand most of the money related conversation. That's not to say I didn't understand the story. Just makes it very unappealable. So, Mr Stone, that's why films about business are not made. If you make it too real, its boring. Make it too unreal, why bother? Everyone concerned regarding acting though did a fine job. Charlie Sheen is of notable credit. Michael Douglas somewhat earns his oscar statuette although without seeing the other choices perhaps it was the best out of a pile of crap or the character has been played in various incarnations so many times that, to me, I see nothing new.
Still, see this if you don't know any of films about business and are interested in a behind the scenes look but don't make it a saturday night in movie. There's better out there.
