(2008) Wall-E.

COMPTER ANIMATION.

FAMILY/ SCIENCE-FICTION.

Part of the experience about watching films is to be able to recognize what we already know. In the case of WALL-E it appears to be the only moving machine on the planet earth which all it does is that it scoops up mostly metal debris before scrunching them into small blocks. It does have a purpose as it stands for 'Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class'. As viewers continue to observe it appears to have a small life of it's own as a result of perhaps being banged up too much with it being the only WALL-E like robot left since others are no longer functioning as wee some scrapped away. Even though, WALL-E is carrying on it's objective, it also seems to have heart as well. We feel for WALL-E the same way as we do for R2-D2 and C3P0, Twiki from Buck Rogers and VINCENT and BOB from "The Black Hole". As the movie is progressing it seems to do what humans do whenever a sand storm is brewing for Wall-E rushes to the back of this hangar ship that's treated like a refuge, and with the stuff Wall-E has salvaged he fiddles around with them including watches TV. The first half of the movie showcases viewers that WALL-E is a robot who is able to think for himself. The second half centers on Wall E doing what it want it to do which is to reunite himself with the robot he's attracted to. And we don't often see that happen very much in films with robots in them. All of it happening was a result from a preservation of a little plant. There's also another homage to another robot that acts like the HAL robot as well from "2001: A Space Odyssey", and perhaps E.T.. And the environmental message is not as heavy handed as some critics really want it to be either- at least I don't think so.

4 out of 4 stars.
