Review of Walking Tall (2004) by Sam P — 11 Apr 2012
I have to admit my review of this film will be slightly biased, as I am a huge fan of The Rock. I find him very charismatic and likable whenever I watch him in any context, so that instantly makes the film more enjoyable for me. The very film itself is very much a B-Movie, and runs at a very brisk 70 minutes, making it easy to get through.
The story is very basic, in the style of action B-Movies from previous decades, however that also means you can just go along for the ride enjoying a brainless movie. The Rock portrays Chris Vaughn, a former Marine returning home to discover that the once idyllic town he knew had been completely corrupted by an old high school colleague called Jay Hamilton, played by Neal McDonough, who is obviously enjoying chewing the scene.
However, the most enjoyable aspect is the chemistry between double act The Rock and Johnny Knoxville, who were hilarious together. In this film, Knoxville seems much more impressive then any other role, and I enjoy him in this more then Jackass. There are several violent scenes that may surprise you, but in context, they make sense. This is a slightly violent but mostly just ridiculous fun, which made me smile all the way through continuously. And it only cost me £1.90 as well :D.
