Review of Walkabout (1971) by Frank M — 21 May 2008
Roeg makes a decent film. its by no means perfect. hes more of a cinematographer than he is a director, but the film still has its good points. a traumatic event abandons 2 kids in the australian outback where they struggle to survive, meet an aborigine on his "walkabout," if you can believe that.
but even though it presents nature as beautiful and yet still brutal, the film romanticizes about it too much. seriously though, the film really is beautifully captured and deals with issues of urbanization, problems of communication and the like.
the music is decent as well. its not bernard hermann or anything but it fits.
