Review of Walkabout (1971) by Morgan O — 19 Jan 2010
I first saw this when I was 11 and completely failed to "get it", dismissing it for years as a boring movie that made me feel weird.
Suffice to say, I have since revisited it and now consider it a modern cinematic masterpiece.
Roeg takes the source material (which I still think is a bit dull) and shows why cinema is better than literature by creating a mesmerising, elegiac ode to innocence lost.
Brilliant.
