Review of Walkabout (1971) by Ken T — 03 Apr 2010
The Australian outback - visceral, empty and gorgeous - as seen through the eyes of cinematographer-turned-director Nicholas Roeg. Walkabout tells the story of a brother and sister who find themselves alone and having to cope with the world of the outback after their father kills himself in the Aussie outback.
They soon meet up with an Aborigine boy (played by David Gulpilil). As terrific a coming-of-age story ever told; stunningly rendered by Roeg, who is certainly regarded among the giants of 1970s cinema.
