Review of Walkabout (1971) by Emil K — 23 Nov 2008
Haunting mood piece that takes us deep into outback of Australia. The Story is simple and surprising, but director Nicolas Roeg whose second directorial feature this film is, does not know where to take his film at times.
There is totally pointless subplot involving hunters killing kangaroos that just takes our interest into the main story away and breaks the otherwise hypnotic mood completely. Still there is much to admire: photography, score by John Barry and feel of this film are all top-notch.
