Review of Walk the Line (2005) by Shinyhappypurple . — 22 Jul 2010
Every genre of music has had one artist which has defined that genre and will always be remember until music because all computers.
Classical-Mozart.
Heavy Metal-Metallica.
Reggae-Bob Marley.
Dance-The Prodigy.
Country-JOHNNY CASH.
He has so many names but we all know that whenever country music is played it can never live up to the brilliance of Johnny Cash and his depressing music about life, family and love. So it's no wonder he had a film for him after his death, he certainly deserved it.
Guitars, saws and pills have all been good and bad memories in Johnny Cash's mind throughout his hard career of dealing with his fame and fortune. And with so very many chips on his shoulders the film can really go off in any direction it wants to show the life of a legend.
It begins with the tragic death of his preacher brother Jack when he was left alone to chop wood with a saw, and since that day his dad had never liked him or even loved him anymore...So of course when fame hits him square in the face after playing some songs he wrote in the airforce he was going to make a turn for the worst in the end.
But with such a legend at hand here for this film we needed an actor who could show Cash as if we were watching his home videos. JOAQIN PHOENIX. 100% flawless performance from Phoenix, great singer, great accent and he even showed Cash's sloping left shoulder expertly.
And of course where would Cash be without June? Reese Witherspoon makes the performance of her life (Earning her an Oscar) as the multiple divorcee, sass talking, comedian singer who stole Johnny's heart and couldn't admit it.
Like Music? Watch It.
Like Biographies? Watch It.
Just want to see some flawless performances? WATCH IT.
4/5.
