Review of Walk the Line (2005) by Damjan R — 21 Mar 2014
With great acting and great music (even though I'm by no means a country music lover) 'Walk the Line' still walks a fine line between predictable and fresh. The audience gets to peak behind the curtain of what drove and motivated some of Cash's greatest songs and how his tumultuous personal life shaped his personality.
It has great heart, Joaquin Phoenix is great, but Reese Witherspoon as June Carter is the stand out. Mangold tends to bring too much interference into some of the scenes and my general feel is that the structure of the story really lent itself to some melodramatic elements which can seem telephoned in.
The music is stellar, as before mentioned, and music bio pic fans, like me, should watch it.
