Review of Walk on Water (2004) by Makar Y — 23 Oct 2007
It's one of those films where the subject matter is intrinsically more interesting than the plot or the characters. It more or less works as a viewpoint on Israeli culture. It doesn't work as a "psychological spy thriller".
Because Eyal is simply a terrible agent--it takes him about thirty minutes to realize something about a character that was pretty obvious. He leaves important materials lying around. He doesn't do his job.
And you never really feel any emotional connection to him or his recent tragedy, or to anyone else, for that matter. Axel is probably the most endearing character in the film, and his heart-to-heart talks with Eyal and points of view regarding Israel are actually pretty interesting.
