Review of Waking the Dead (2000) by T.a. P — 24 Oct 2008
A tale of love lost and remembered amidst a personal political career and political crises in 1970s Chile. The story itself isn't very engaging or interesting, such that one review I read upon understanding the film's critical reception called it a modern day "Love Story.
" Had the principal actors Crudup and Connelly not been cast, this film would have been absolutely terrible and not even worth a glance of the DVD cover. Yet, because of the believability of their relationship, this film actually tugs on a couple of heartstrings without being cloying or manipulative.
