Review of Waking Sleeping Beauty (2009) by Nan S — 28 Mar 2010
Interesting beyond reason, director Don Hahn takes us on a rare journey behind the scenes of the Disney Studios, showing the chaos and ego behind what lead to some of the most successful films in Disney history. This is a documentary with old footage, interviews, home movies, and new interviews with Roy E. Disney (before he passed away) and Jeffrey Katzenberg (Eisner gave his blessing but didn't want to contribute anything new).
At a slim hour and 26 minutes, there's definitely more to the story than what was shown. Waking Sleeping Beauty was so interesting that I really wouldn't mind seeing a lot more. Fortunately for us, the DVD release will contain about 85 more minutes of footage.
This film is not just for Disney animation buffs. It should be seen by anyone who works in Hollywood.
