Review of Waking Ned (1998) by Stephanie A — 29 Dec 2007
Waking Ned Devine (1998) was written and directed by Kirk Jones. The story is set in a small Irish town called Tullymore (population 52). Ian Bannen and David Kelly play best friends who find out that someone in their town has won the lottery.
They discover that Ned Devine is the winner, but the problem is that he has died of shock holding the winning ticket. The jackpot totals almost 6.9 million Irish pounds. Together with the entire town, they launch a scheme to defraud the money by having David Kelly's character inpersonate Ned.
But things get a lot more complicated when a representative from the Lottery Corporation comes to town to verify the winner and present Ned Devine with the winnings. This film is a favorite of mine. I especially love the Ian Bannen and David Kelly's performance as the best friends.
I recommend this light hearted comedy. As its tagline says - "Finally, a comedy that will make you feel like a million bucks".
