Review of Waking Life (2001) by Martin C — 18 Sep 2008
I have found my new Alice in Wonderland, this film was mesmerizing. its such a shame people associate it with 'A Scanner Darkly' (a pretty average film) because of its use of graphics. forget about that, thats not the point, its jsut a visual way of representing a fantastic idea. Waking life is a very intelligent piece of film making, the viewer and the character are taken on the same journey. a truly metaphysical one. As well as the philosophical implications to the film there is a strange sense of a reflected reality, a funny reflected reality similar to the sense of drifting focus during conversation, imagine words happening etc. whats more there is a 'Creature Comforts' like aura to this film, a kind of documentary feel with a humorous twist.
Love the Atmosphere, Love the script, Love the Concept, Love the acting, the dialog, just not so sure about the cinematography even though it is interesting.
This has clearly Leaped into my favorites.
