Review of Waking Life (2001) by Caleb M — 23 Nov 2008
A unique film in both its visuals and message. The first 40 minutes or so take a while to get used to. There are a lot of "talking head" moments that are easy to get lost in trying to understand.
About halfway through though, the film hits it's stride and you will either understand what Linklater is going for or you will still be lost. Like a dream, Waking Life doesn't have a clear straightforward narrative, it's more like a collection of moments and people doing and saying things that have something in commen, although they doen't always seem to make sense in any logical way.
I would recommend watching this film and paying attention so you can know what it's like, and then some other time watch it late at night and just drift off to sleep.
