Review of Waking Life (2001) by Joe B — 24 May 2009
I don't really know if I love or hate this movie.
It really is hard to hate it because of it's brilliant writing.
but it's somehow even harder to love it because you need an extremely clear mind and a high tolerance for very talky scenes with a lot of big words.
Either way, the film itself is a great. It could have just been a little less harder to follow. But, I completely respect it, and it seriously is unlike anything I have ever seen before.
The animation is tacky, but if you watch "a scanner darkly", that's the film where Linklater perfected rotoscope. A scanner darkly is also a lot more fast paced, and combines philisophical talky scenes, with a really interesting story.
