Review of Waking Life (2001) by Jonathan A — 07 Jul 2010
Guy takes a surreal journey where he converses with various people on a grab-bag of philosophical topics ranging from lucid dreams to human existence. More of a docudrama on philosophy if anything, as the film really has no true plot to speak of.
While the conversations are interesting, they're a little hard to grasp on first glance. The film's saving grace is the use of rotoscoping, which keeps the viewer engaged with the free-form visuals that help augment the messages these people try to get across.
Still, I felt somewhat indifferent about it, but intrigued.
