Review of Wake of Death (2004) by Senh D — 08 Sep 2005
Transporter 2 - Almost forgot about this one. It's cooler, more exciting, and less annoying than the first one. Shu Qi really bugged me in the first one because all she did was belt out these ear-piercing screams.
.
Guess Who - a typical romantic comedy, except there's really not much to laugh at. I guess, like "The Pacifier", it's not offensive, and everything's nice and sweet at the end.
Ju-on: The Grudge - Much better than the remake. The trailer showed pretty much the scariest scenes though. Still, I thought the story was pretty well structured. I would definitely NOT watch this alone in my house though.
Wake of Death - A decent acting job by Vam Damme playing a man out to avenge his wife's death. I guess the extra lines on his face helps. The action sequences, mostly gun fights, are moderately exciting. It looks pretty good too - dark, but slick.
The Touch - The climatic CGI crapfest ruined the entire movie. I love CGI, and I wouldn't have minded it if it didn't look like something I did on my decade-old PC using my feet. I can't believe that with $20M, they couldn't get something better. Everything up to then was pretty good. It was an ambitious adventure around the world with very nice cinematography. The fight scenes were ok; it's just that they lacked power. If they would have just had Michelle Yeoh unloading a can of whup-ass on the baddies at the end, that would be enough for a recommendation from me.
