Review of Waitress (2007) by Rhanda D — 25 Feb 2009
Though painted with a broad stroke and possessing an intrinsic message that I tend to dislike, I nevertheless found myself laughing and swooning along with Keri Russell in "Waitress." The caricatured characters -- clearly defined as good guys and bad guys -- spit out their sparkling dialogue with a refreshing amount of sarcasm, making this a great romantic comedy for the intelligent set.
Nathan Fillion is charming and flawed in his role as Dr. Pomatter, providing a nice balance to the sharp-tongued and generally cynical female characters. As writer, actress and director, Adrienne Shelly excels, making her untimely death all the more tragic.
With my self-avowed dislike of the "rom-com" genre well-known, I can say with no reservations that this little film is a delicious slice of feel-good that should definitely grace your plate.
