Review of Waitress (2007) by Louise M — 04 Jun 2009
This film is full of cynical one liners and I can't help watching it over and over. Everytime I watch it I find something new. It was especially sad to find out that the wonderfully talented and funny Adrienne Shelly had died before this film was finished.
Some of the scenes are completely crazy, like when Dr. Pomater and Jenna kiss and they spin around but it just adds to the charm and enchantment of the glossy backwater town. Despite the miraculous turn around of the lead character, I love how this film doesn't try to be liked.
The characters are meant to be unlikeable but they lean so far over the fence, you actually like them. My favourite character is Old Joe -- he just tells everything like it is :).
