Review of Waiting for "Superman" (2010) by Jarett B — 19 Mar 2011
Man... Being an advocate for education myself, sitting through this Doc was one dismal experience. Firstly, well, we're f**ked. Plain and simple. There is just no room left for learning anymore: make money, fix economies, try not to go to war, go to sleep on your bed filled with millions of dollars, sleep like a bitch.
"Way she goes, Rick. Way she goes..." Secondly, and sadly, the Doc is incredibly boring! That, for me, was heartbreaking, as I have a personal interest in this material, and at 45 minutes in (or so) I was ready to turn it off and head to bed.
On the other hand, it would have made a great read... if that's any sort of consolation? Is it? Anyway, I will give credit to the filmmaker for building real, actual life suspense at the end, with the devastating 'lottery' that takes place.
Christ... I have to say, that I will stop bitching about Canadian schools--for a week or two at least. It does end on a happy-ish note, and I was truly glad to see ... Spoiler... ahhh f*** it. I'm not saying anything.
However, it's an actual heartfelt moment in an otherwise boring, fact puking Doc. I loves me some facts, but put some images in with them or something... or just give me the G.D. book! So...? Watch it if you'd like.
Also, I imagine there is a synopsis somewhere; or, go to a public school and see for yourself.
